No. The person submitting the nomination does not need to be an alumnus/a, faculty, or staff of NYU.

Yes. Self-nominations are accepted.

No. The selection committees consider the strength of the nomination, not how many copies of the nomination are received.

Nominations are accepted on a rolling basis, though a deadline will be announced each year to be considered for the following year’s awards. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that your nomination is complete and that all materials have been received by the selection committee. Incomplete nominations will not be considered.

What is the Awards Committee looking for?

  • Eugene J. Keogh Award: A respected and distinguished public figure of recognized stature or identity, who has clearly demonstrated a record of outstanding public service in her/his professional, vocational, social, or cultural endeavors, and who, by receiving this award, brings honor to the University.
  • Distinguished Alumnus/a Award: A respected and distinguished alumnus/as of any school, college or division of NYU who has demonstrated extraordinary achievement and/or service in her/his professional, vocational, social, or cultural endeavors, and who deserves acknowledgment as embodying the spirit of distinction that brings pride to the University.
  • Distinguished Young Alumnus/a Award: Presented to an NYU alumnus/a, who has graduated in the last 10 years, for outstanding achievement in business or professional life, or for significantly improving or enhancing the lives of others through outstanding leadership or service. His or her deeds and actions thereby reflect and recognize the importance of their education and bring honor to the University.
  • Meritorious Service Award: A respected and distinguished graduate of any school, college, or division of NYU, who has demonstrated extraordinary service and continuing devotion to their Alma Mater, and who embodies the University motto Perstare et Praestare: to Persevere and to Excel.
