NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts
566 LaGuardia Place
New York, NY
Independent children's music superstars Dan Zanes and Elizabeth Mitchell join forces on our stage for their NYC album release concert to celebrate their collaborative album "Turn Turn Turn."
Dan Zanes and Elizabeth Mitchell, acclaimed by Time Magazine as leading "Stars of Kindie Rock," are at the forefront of the current wave of independent children's music. For more than a decade, the Grammy Award winner Dan Zanes has toured around the world with his friends, sharing his handmade 21st century social music with enthusiastic crowds of kids and kid sympathizers. In a perfect harmony with Dan, Elizabeth Mitchell's lovely voice brings a fresh sound to cherished American folk songs and other melodies from all quarters. Over the course of six wildly popular albums in nearly 15 years, Elizabeth Mitchell, along with her family band You Are My Flower, has invited listeners to join her friends and relatives to become part of her extended musical family.
Between them, they have collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Andrew Bird, Debbie Harry, Natalie Merchant, Lou Reed, Ziggy Marley, Levon Helm, Angelique Kidjo, Philip Glass, and many more. Although they have long been friends and confidantes, they have pursued parallel but separate paths, until this, their first collaborative recording "Turn Turn Turn," which Zanes’ Festival Five Records releases August 27. The album brings Zanes’ and Mitchell's homespun musical visions to a collection of songs spanning time and place. A Dan Zanes and Elizabeth Mitchell show is an opportunity for fans of both artists to join in a celebration of American family and roots music.
