A Message from the Senior Class Legacy Chair

What is Senior Legacy?

In 2003, NYU's senior class decided to expand upon an existing tradition - senior class giving. Individual NYU schools had already established traditions of senior class legacies, but this was the first time that all of NYU's Schools joined together to ask seniors to create a University-wide undergraduate legacy.

How does Senior Class Legacy work?

First, the Senior Class Legacy Committee selects three exciting class gifts for the entire class to choose from. They may be programs, funds, or projects – but they are initiatives that are worthy of our support.

Second, voting on these projects opens to the entire senior class. Get all of your friends to vote and come back to our website to checkout the tallies as voting progresses.

Third, the winning gift is announced and the campaign begins! We ask each member of our class to donate a minimum of $5 to their individual school, and at the same time make a pledge to give $5 a year for the next three years to your school's Annual Fund. That's only $20 each over 4 years, but as a class, it gives us the opportunity to make our mark on the University.

What is the President’s Challenge?

To support our efforts, President John Sexton matches the total amount that we raise (He has designated $25,000 to the 2009 Challenge - that's 5,000 graduates at $5 each) for the class gift project or fund. So, while our initial gifts will go directly to our schools, the President's match allows us to realize a University-wide initiative of our choosing.

Come visit our tables at various senior-related events such as 100 Nights Before Commencement and the Senior Class Champagne Toast to receive free giveaways courtesy of Senior Legacy and in honor of your graduation. Check back on our site often for fun games and promotions related to the 2009 Senior Class Legacy.

The Senior Class Legacy is a way to give back to your fellow students and continue a meaningful tradition that benefits both students and your school. Let's build class spirit and set an example for alumni and younger classes. Let's leave our last mark before we leave.

Every senior can vote on which gift will be our legacy.
